Teachers

Lee Lewin
Lee is the school’s co-founder and now serves as co-director and full-time teacher of history and math. She is licensed by the state of New Mexico to teach K through 8 and has earned the state’s bilingual education endorsement. She holds two undergraduate degrees, one in Russian language and literature from the University of California and one in education from the College of Santa Fe.

Janet Graham
Janet is the school’s administrator. She has over 30 years of teaching and administrative experience. She earned her undergraduate degree in education from Colorado State University and holds a graduate degree from St. John’s College.

Will Barnes
Will is a full-time teacher and co-founder of Project PRESERVE. Will has been teaching middle school science and outdoor education on a part-time basis for ten years. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University, a law degree from the University of Colorado and a Masters degree in biology from the University of New Mexico. He is currently enrolled at the Santa Fe Community College to earn his New Mexico grades K through 8 teacher’s license. When not in the classroom, Will is exploring outside, or spending time with his family.

Greta Nelson
Greta joins SFGS’s faculty as a full-time English Language Arts teacher. Originally from Princeton, New Jersey, she holds a BA in English from Rutgers University, Douglas College (2007) and an MA in the Teaching of English from Columbia University’s Teachers College (2008). She has had two years of classroom teaching experience in addition to extensive work as a private writing tutor, a teen health educator and yoga instructor, a teacher for the New York City-based organization Student Press Initiative, and as an editor and reviewer for a young adult literary journal. Outside of the English classroom and her quirky passion for gerunds, Bananagrams, semi-colons, narrative non-fiction, and Shakespearean insults, Greta also enjoys all things outdoorsy and active.

Nathan Fuhrman
Nathan is looking forward to his second year at Santa Fe Girls’ School, and to teaching sixth grade math and eighth grade algebra. He will also continue to serve in his role as the environmental education assistant. Nate graduated from Prescott College with a BA in Education and an emphasis in Adventure Education.

Cullen Curtiss
Cullen is the school’s development director, and also handles marketing and PR. She has more than 15 years of professional experience in print, online, and book writing and editing, and more than 10 in marketing and PR. Cullen earned her undergraduate degree in English from the University of Vermont and her MFA in Creative Writing from St. Mary’s College of California. She and her husband and son love the outdoors, especially camping, skiing, and gardening.

Enrichment Teachers

Cecilia Binkley, Art
Cecilia teaches art to the 7th and 8th grades. She has studied with three major artists in the area: George Burrows, Mary Beth Schwark and Don Sahli. Her work is currently being shown at Laurel Seth Gallery, Abiquiu Inn and the Lodge at Chama.

Joan Logghe, Poetry
Joan has been a New Mexico Artist-in-Residence since 1984. She has won numerous awards in the field of poetry including a 1991 National Endowment for the Arts fellowship in poetry. She presents poetry readings throughout New Mexico and nationally. Joan was named to the two year Poet Laureate post in June 2010. Read the story in the Santa Fe New Mexican

Michele Holloway, Fitness
Michele is AFAA certified in low-impact aerobics, step training, personal training and Pilates. Her clients range in age from 12 to 75 years old, both male and female. She is also a guest instructor at Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico.

Oceanna Holton, Art & Volleyball
Oceanna has a degree in Fine Arts and brings over 15 years teaching experience to the school. She introduces students to all types of art, encouraging them to express themselves freely.

Consuelo O Walker, Spanish
Consuelo is a native Guatemalan, and received her License and Teaching studies at Escuela Normal Casa Central, an all-girls school. She taught Kindergarten, and adult education leaders in Guatemala city. She studied Liberal Arts and Psychology in Guatemala. After moving to Santa Fe with her husband, she opened a small import/export business during the 70s. A mother or two, Consuelo traveled around the world and worked part-time with the Foreign Service with her husband. She has four grandchildren. She holds a Bachelors in Education from Highlands University,and has taught Kindergarten, third and fourth grades in the Santa Fe Public School system on contract. She has been teaching Spanish to adults at the Santa Fe Community College Continuing Education program for about seven years. She is active in civic affairs, and volunteers teaching Basic Spanish Literacy and ESL to adults with Santa Fe Literacy Volunteers. Teaching is her passion and she looks forward to teaching Spanish at SFGS.
